My daughter was an early reader. She started at two and started reading chapter books at five. Click here to see how we got her started reading young. She’s six now. The problem I have is that books at her reading level can be too mature for her age. So here is a list of books she’s read that are not too much for her as far as sensitivity material or being too scary, which is a big one for her. They are also very readable. Feel free to add your suggestions in the comments!

1. American Girl
There’s a ton of books in this series, that features girls from many different time periods.
2. The Boxcar Children
This is Kayla’s current favorite book series. There are about 150 books in this series, and Kayla reads a book in about a day.
3. Elizabeth Gail
I read this series as a little girl, so I was very excited to let my daughter read the same books! This is actually a Christian series.
4. A Little Princess
Such a sweet, classic story that teaches your daughter values like humility, kindness, and perseverance.
5. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Kayla couldn’t get into Prince Caspian, but she loved the first book in this series!
6. Nancy Clancy
Can you believe that there are chapter book Fancy Nancy books? I loved the little kid ones, and Kayla liked the older Nancy Clancy ones as well.
7. The Jesus Storybook Bible
This Bible is so amazing, Kayla read it through once after I read it to her. This is not your average kid’s Bible. The language pulls you into the romance of the gospel, and the illustrations are fantastic.
8. Diary of a Wimpy Kid
I’m reading the 7th book in this series together with Kayla. The kids at my after school program were crazy about this series, and it’s been pretty cute and funny so far.
This is a great list. I’d also recommend The Girl Who Could Fly & Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat. Those are two really cute fantasy books. Happy Reading!
Great! I’ll check those out. Thanks!
